Day One of Vacation
Goal: Drive to Perry, Georgia - 660 miles away
The 'Pirate Ship' was full. The jogging stroller and Riley's exersaucer took up lots of space.
To maximize on driving time while little boys were sleeping, we left early...
that's right. We left at 3:00 a.m. Thankfully, we had a chauffeur. He actually drove every single mile of the trip.
Some little boy was excited to go on a trip...can't you tell?
We drove all the way to Clarksville, TN before the natives got to restless and hungry. After breakfast and diaper/clothes changes, we were back in the car we went for the first stretch of driving with awake kids. However, it wasn't long before both boys took morning naps, making the day of driving fairly easy.
This guy was content to play with his toys, watch Brody or just snooze as long as he was fed, diapered regularly and occassionaly got to stretch.
We were traveling with Grampy and Grammy and Chris, Katy and Eli, so Brody took a break from our vehicle and road with Grammy and Grampy in the afternoon. Grampy had the joy of watching the tractor movie over and over again!
By 4:30 p.m., we were passing through Perry, GA, all parties were content so we decided to cancel our reservations and drive on another 100 miles. About 30 miles into this last stretch of driving, some little boys became restless. Riley eventaully fell asleep for a little pre-dinner snooze. I had to pull out my bag of unseen toys for Brody. 15 minutes later, we had went through all of them except Brody's new markers. At this point, I couldn't take anymore whining and handed over a marker and paper. Suddenly he became quiet. He was mesmerized by the markers. Sweet Jesus, we had peace in the vehicle once again! That peace came with a price though.
Poor iPhone picture, but he had drawn himself earrings, fake boogers, random marks on his face, and his arms were covered. I actually just laughed it off, they were washable markers. Kurtie might have been a wee bit embarrassed because we had to go check into our hotel. A peaceful last thirty minutes of driving on day one was worth it though!
This guy was very happy to get to stretch once we finally stopped.
Whew...day one was under our belt!
