Happy Birthday, Cohen!

IMG_0876 Over the weekend, we helped Cohen celebrate his 4th birthday.  Mr. Cohen decorated his own star shaped cake and I do believe his vision of the perfect four year old birthday cake came to life!IMG_0910Happy Birthday, Cohen Lyle!

Brody

Copy of Riley

Please note that Riley is wearing fur lined crocs that he found in the basket and carrying a baby food jar with his collection of stuff in it.  I tried to hold his jar so he could ride, but that was not acceptable.

How did they get so big??

I looked in the backseat yesterday after we pulled into Julie's drive. Riley looked so grown up and Brody is in school! How did that happen so quickly?

Demolition!

I'm a wee bit lazy...I have better pictures on the camera, but it's so easy to use the ones from my phone.  This is a picture of the built in closets that used to reside in the toy room, which used to be our bedroom before we had kids.  The room is in the very front of the house and many moons ago used to be more of a front parlor that had archways making it open to the rest of the house.  As my great-grandmother aged, she converted the room into a bedroom for herself in the 60's or 70's...my dad's memory is a little fuzzy on when it actually all took place.

Kurt has had the BEST help possible to get this project completed!

Kurt is in the dining room and on this side of the wall, there were built in shelves.  The wall you can see in the toy room that has the pictures hanging and the alphabet displayed will soon become a new wall of built ins - bigger and better than what we had.

There is still much left to do, but the view from the dining room table is improving greatly...well if you can get past the stuff that is just shoved out of the way to make demo possible.

This and That

Riley ran a fever last week.  It seems his two year molars are giving him fits right now as well.
Riley's collection in his pockets from Saturday...all found in the washing machine Sunday.  Like Aunt Katy said, the only thing missing is a Polly Pocket.

Sunday's collection included a cell phone, skate board, a clamp and sponge bob.  He carried his collection to Grammy and Grampy's and he really wanted to pick up some rocks on the way, but didn't have pockets so they were sadly left behind.
Brody can't wait to go see Mickey and Minnie again...we wear our hats often and talk about all the rides we are going to ride!
Brody discovered "frog petals" (mushrooms) in Grammy's yard.

Tonight is Riley's first night in a twin bed right by Brody.  In the monitor, I listened to Brody try to comfort Ri when he was upset because I left the room.  They then discussed what they are going to be for Halloween.  Two trips to the bathroom later and Kurt cuddling with Ri for a bit, they were asleep.

Week Two of Pre-School:
Brody still is eager to go.  He is ready to leave by 7:15, even though he can't go until 8:00.  Today he got to take the snack.  He had to try on his backpack twice to make sure it wasn't too heavy for him to carry.  Not only did he get to take the snack, but he got to hand it out plus the straws for their milk.  Last week, he discovered chocolate milk at school and quickly decided he didn't care for it.

Throw in harvest and that about sums our last week or so.

The BEST day ever!

They have only been waiting since the first planter started rolling this spring to help with harvest. They have to be starving but neither is ready to go home just yet.

First Day...

Today is the day Brody has looked forward to since he turned three...the first day of Pre-School.
I was by far more nervous than him.  He was up early, didn't fight me to get dressed and at 7:15 he had his back pack on and was ready to go.  I had to find little things for him to do until 8:00 when I could drop him off.  I wish I would have had something to handy to record the little conversation he had with Riley...he told Ri he was going to school today and then there were little whispers.  Riley told him no, No, NO and Brody told him he had to go to school.  I think cried the most tears about Brody's first day.

He greeted Mrs. Jack, his teacher, had a little conversation with her, and then they started to unpack his bag.  He had time for a quick hug for his mama and off he went to play with Zaida, a sweet little girl from daycare.  I'm glad he was so content to go conquer the world of Pre-School on his own.  I'm definitely anxious to hear all about it in a couple hours!

Go-Carts

i really thought brody would be scared and kurt wouldn't get to pull out on the track.  i was WRONG.  he loved racing and wants to go back with grampy!
gabrielle had a blast too!  prior to getting there, she kept calling it golf-carting.  i didn't ask her after the ride, but i am guessing she would prefer to go-cart over golf-cart anyday!
someone wasn't 36 inches tall and had to hang out with mom.
he eventually go to ride a mini train and carousel and all was right in his world again.

Birthday Recap

After spending Riley's birthday at the zoo, we capped off the day with dinner, gifts and cake.  Eli, Brody and Riley helped add the finishing touches to the cake, complete with little finger marks where they sampled the icing!

While cleaning up the other two, Riley worked quickly to get the lid off the sprinkles, dip it in icing and then proceeded to feast.
Brody went shopping for Riley's gift, I only assisted by chauffeuring and carrying the $$.  He picked out a ginormous container of cheese puffs, new markers, a monster truck, a police car and some dinosaurs.  The container of cheese puffs being the most expensive item purchased that day!  It was fun to watch Brody put serious thought into what Riley needed for his birthday.
And finally the candles were blown out and the cake devoured!

We ended the day with some group pictures (picture of all six below) and head banging to Queen (video below).  I think the only thing missing was Aunt Michelle and Uncle Justin.

In the end, it was a pretty big day for a two year old, but I do believe he enjoyed every minute of it!
