The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

On Monday, he ate through one apple, but he was still hungry.
On Tuesday, he ate through two pears, but he was still hungry.
On Wednesday, he ate through three plums, but he was still hungry
On Thursday, he ate through four strawberries, but he was still hungry.
On Friday, he ate through five oranges, but he was still hungry.

So, on Saturday, he ate through one slice of salami, a slice of cheese, one pickle, one sausage

 one slice of watermelon

 one lollipop

 one cupcake.

and one slice of chocolate cake.  kurt's aunt jody created the cake.  you rock jody!

there were definitely plenty of helpers on hand when it came to present time, which was perfectly fine because riley really wasn't into the whole gift thing.

the server of the cake wore a hat...she might have not had a choice though.

Thanks to all who helped Riley celebrate turning ONE!  

each year on brody's birthday, he has had his picture taken in this tie of kurt's, so we started the same tradition for riley this evening.  this is the best picture we got...even with the sun glaring in on his face.  we might have to try again tomorrow!

Riley is ONE!

One year ago today, Riley William was born!

I ran across the journal Kurt had kept from the time I woke him up around 1:30 a.m. with contractions that were 5-7 minutes apart. I was in NO hurry to get to the hospital...Kurt was ready to leave the moment I woke him up. I took a shower, folded the last load of laundry and made sure I had everything in my bag I would need. My water broke around 3:20 a.m., according to Kurt, and he had my parents here and me to the hospital within 20 minutes. By 5:00 I signed myself up for an epidural and had the thermostat turned down. Kurt wrote in bold caps letters that I FROZE HIM OUT!!! I remember still being HOT! Anywho during the whole epidural ordeal, Kurt about passed out...he was light headed, sweating, etc...and he thought that room was cold? By 6:15, we were both just trying to rest a wee bit...I think this was short lived though. My epidural took care of the pain but not the pressure. The nurses called Dr. Haller before 8:00. She barely got to the room in time and simply slipped on a gown over her street clothes and after just a few minutes of pushing, Riley was born at 8:28 a.m.

And now he is ONE!

Meet William Ross

This little man arrived 6.July.2011 to proud parents Brittney (my cousin) and Zach! 

He is quite the handsome little man with a perfect head of blonde hair.

I could have held him all night...such a content little guy.

Congrats to the new little family of three and Happy Anniversary Brittney and Zach!

Brody completed his week of swimming lessons on Friday.  He wasn't sure what to think of Rachel, his instructor, on day one.  However, by the end of the week, Kurt didn't have to be in the pool with him.  He learned some basics and told Rachel he would see her next summer!

father's day weekend recap.

brody was back to work this weekend laying carpet tiles.  he and kurt eventually got the shelving added to riley's closet too!  it is absolutely necessary to have your combine close by when 'orking hard' and pants are optional.

 riley is fearless at times.  he forgets that he can't walk yet and has a teeny tiny black eye and bruised elbows to show for his dare devil antics!

 i made the happiest cake i have ever seen for mike storm's birthday. 

 it was really dense though, so i guess i better whip out the butter and try some different white cake recipes before riley's birthday party.

 finally, we celebrated all the father's.  kurt got lots of his favorites all in one day...scones, homemade potato salad, grape salad and katy's cream cheese dip with teddy grahams.  the whole household took a nap too!

the life of riley...

sunday afternoon, riley took full advantage of the perfect weather and just lounged in a chair for awhile.  he prefers for his feet to not touch the grass so he sat with his ankles crossed practically the whole time he was in the chair. 

 not to be left out, brody has a chair as well.  he doesn't sit and ponder the world around him near as long as riley, but i do think my chairs were hit and not a waste of $$ like a certain someone thought.  so there kurtie!

of course, shortly after this brody took off with aunt helen to do something.  i missed a great video opportunity as they both skipped, galloped and ran across the yard.
